FURTMAN injection

In fact, FURTMAN injection is useful in addition to the intravenous solution of parenteral nutrition therapy to maintain the serum levels of zinc, copper, manganese, and chromium in the body and prevent depletion and deficiency symptoms.

So, how to use FURTMAN injection?

Use according to the doctor’s prescription, but check the amount of trace elements in plasma and use it as a guideline for dosage adjustment.

Warnings Of Usage:

Do not inject directly without dilution as there is a possibility of phlebitis.
Since this agent is a low osmotic solution, it is useful only for mixed injection.
If toxicity occurs from any one component, stop administration immediately.

General caution:

Before injection, the doctor should determine the patient’s pathological condition and metabolic requirements.
Zinc is excreted by the kidneys, so a person with renal impairment may develop zinc retention.
Copper and manganese are excreted in bile, so retention may occur in patients with biliary obstruction.
The secondary secretory pathway for manganese is pancreatic juice, and there is also reabsorption into the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum.
Since chromium affects the maintenance of normal glucose homeostasis, it is necessary to consider whether the patient is diabetic.

3. Side Effects:

Since the amounts of zinc, copper, manganese, and chromium are very low, symptoms of toxicity are unlikely to occur at the prescribed dose.

4. Precautions for application:

Do not use without a doctor’s prescription.
When adding this agent to the TPN solution, it is desirable to do it in a laminar flow to maintain sterility.
